Overview.

Pacific Technology Partners is an independent private investment firm focusing on buyout and growth capital investments in technology companies, leveraging the firm’s technology expertise, global networks in the technology and private equity industries, and differentiated network of relationships in Silicon Valley, Japan and Southeast Asia.  PTP was co-founded in 2007 by Adriaan Ligtenberg and Grant Finlayson (the “Founding Partners”), as the first pure play technology-focused private equity firm focusing on these markets in the Pacific region.

PTP typically develops these opportunities in collaboration with leading local investors in the target markets, complementing these investors’ ability to execute locally with PTP’s technology expertise and global reach.

Leveraging PTP’s technology expertise, global networks, stature and relationships in the target markets will create & identify opportunities that will out-perform the private equity industry as a whole.
Grant Finlayson

PTP believes that key trends including the convergence of wireless broadband and Internet of Things technology as well as advancements in renewable energy generation, storage and distribution technology is creating exceptional opportunities to leverage the complementary strengths of Silicon Valley (leading technology and business model innovation), Japan (rich technology and brand assets, and stable premium markets), and the emerging markets of Southeast Asia (competitive production capabilities and high growth markets) to generate profitable growth. At present, these opportunities are underserved by the private equity industry, with few groups in the region possessing the technology expertise and industry networks to capitalize on these opportunities.

As a result, technology businesses in the region provide attractive opportunities for non-competitive entry at stunning valuations, as well as substantial value enhancement through operational improvements, customer diversification, development of more effective technology and IP strategies, and expansion into international markets.  By leveraging PTP’s technology expertise, global networks, stature and relationships in the target markets, PTP expects a robust flow of non-competitive opportunities and believes that the performance of these investments will exceed that of the private equity industry as a whole.

PTP also sees the rise of Southeast Asia as creating exceptional opportunities to leverage the complementary strengths of Silicon Valley and Japan with those of these high growth, low cost markets. As a first mover in these underserved cross-border technology markets, PTP sees abundant opportunities to acquire technology assets at reasonable valuations, generate value through growth and geographic expansion, and realize exceptional returns through competitive exit processes.

PTP’s completed transactions to date include a growth capital investment in Altair Semiconductor Ltd. (leading producer of advanced LTE processing chips), the acquisition of Willcom, Inc. (the #4 Japanese wireless carrier), and a growth capital investment in Naka Co., Ltd. (leading Japanese producer of high end crystal oscillators for telecom infrastructure equipment).
